Calling all old pumpkins!

Good news! The Department of Public Works has put out an organics container for dropping off aging Halloween pumpkins.

This is a great opportunity for West Hartford residents to reduce what is sent to trash by composting pumpkins. When food waste decomposes in landfills, under piles of trash without oxygen, methane – which is more harmful than CO2 – is released into the atmosphere as a byproduct.

Pumpkins collected by the DPW will be sent to Quantum Biopower and turned into energy and compost!

Please: NO plastic, trash, or recyclables in the pumpkin bin.

Drop-off location: Department of Public Works, 17 Brixton Street, West Hartford.

Pumpkins can be dropped off through Nov. 7.
