The West Hartford rivalry added another layer of intensity on Monday as Hall and Conard met on the baseball field in a matchup that carried more meaning than just standings. Dubbed “Police vs. Fire,” the game blended community pride with hometown bragging rights, turning a regular-season contest into something far bigger.

Hall, the blue team, played on behalf of the West Hartford Police Department, while Conard’s red represented the West Hartford Fire Department.

From the first pitch, the energy matched the moment – but it didn’t take long for Hall to seize complete control.

The Titans set the tone immediately with a five-run first inning, capitalizing on patience at the plate and aggressive base running. Joshua Gertner sparked the surge, swiping two bases in the opening frame and eventually scoring as Hall took advantage of multiple walks to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

Matthew Panarella added to the pressure with an RBI fielder’s choice, and Tommy Hussey electrified the dugout by stealing home on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.

Hall’s relentless pace didn’t slow in the second. Gertner continued to wreak havoc on the basepaths, collecting his fourth stolen base of the day after a single. Maxwell Hanawalt followed with an RBI single, and Panarella delivered again – this time with a two-run double – to stretch the lead to 8-0.

Defensively, the Titans backed up their offense with clean, efficient innings, including a quick 1-2-3 frame in the third. When Conard threatened in the fourth, Grant Davidson shut the door, working out of a jam to keep the Red Wolves off the board.

Hall added insurance in the fourth as Hussey doubled and later stole home for the second time, pushing the lead to 9-0. Another run crossed on a wild pitch, sealing a dominant 10-0 advantage.

With contributions across the lineup and an aggressive approach that overwhelmed Conard, Hall closed out the game via mercy rule – turning a highly anticipated rivalry matchup into a statement performance, and a “victory” for the West Hartford Police Department in the first-responders game.

Conard (3-7) will travel to face another West Hartford rival – Northwest Catholic – on Wednesday afternoon, and will host Lewis Mills on Friday. Hall will travel to Bristol Eastern on Wednesday and will host Farmington Friday afternoon.

Conard and Hall will have a rematch later in the season at the annual Mayor’s Cup game, scheduled for Thursday, May 14 at the University of Hartford’s Fiondella Field, beginning at 3:45 p.m.
