Summer is the ideal time for students to pursue a dance education. Without academic pressures or busy extracurricular activity schedules, dancers are able to excel at a more rapid pace in technical skill, strength and performance, while exploring a variety of dance styles.
The School of Ballet Theatre Company (SBTC) recommends that dancers train for several consecutive weeks to support and sustain their dance technique and strength, however, it is understood that not all dancers wish to train in this fashion. SBTC’s Summer Program schedules have been designed to allow students the flexibility to train all summer or for selected weeks.
Registration for SBTC Summer Program opens Monday, Feb. 6.
SBTC Summer Program is open to the public
SBTC’s summer program is open to the public. SBTC’s summer program includes a variety of intensives for dancers at the introductory level, beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. New students interested in SBTC’s Summer Dance Intensives should fill out the New Student Inquiry Form for Summer 2023 to determine their placement in the program. Summer Intensive Offerings
SBTC will offer a unique experience to intermediate/advanced pointe students to learn a classical ballet variation, receive professional 1:1 coaching, and perform in costume for a guest panel of dance professionals in its Variation Intensive. SBTC’s popular, half-day, Mini Intensive is back for Summer 2023. The intensive is offered to develop younger dancers’ ballet technique with separate instruction for each of the designated levels. Each week has a different Classical Ballet theme where dancers will be educated about the specific ballet, watch excerpts from a professional production, learn excerpts of choreography from the production and create ballet-related crafts. The intensive culminates with a short showcase performance at the end of the week that families and friends are invited to watch at BTC’s studio.
The Mini Intensive is offered for dancers ages 3-7 (SBTC levels: Creative Movement and Primary Ballet I). All sessions run Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-noon
- Session 1, July 31-Aug. 4 – Ballet Theme: Coppelia
- Session 2, Aug. 21-25 – Ballet Theme: Swan Lake
The final intensive of SBTC’s Summer 2023 schedule is Ballet Bootcamp. In addition to Ballet and Pointe technique, this program focuses on strength, flexibility, core stability training, and dance conditioning. Dancers also learn about nutrition and injury prevention. The goal of the program is to prepare students for any upcoming auditions and dance school year.
Ballet Bootcamp is open to intermediate and advanced dancers (SBTC levels: Ballet III – Ballet VI) and is offered Aug. 15-19, Monday thru Friday, 6-9 p.m.
