Culex pipiens mosquitoes at Spicebush Swamp in West Hartford have tested positive for West Nile Virus, according to health officials.

Health officials confirmed that mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile Virus in our community.

They recommended personal protective measures, including using mosquito repellents, wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and limiting outdoor exposure from dusk to dawn.

Using air conditioning, installing window and door screens, and reducing mosquito breeding sites around the home can further decrease the risk of exposure. More information on personal protective measures is available on the CDC Mosquitoes website.
