Sacred Music at the Red Door kicks off 2016 with “Pipes Alive” featuring Organist Scott Lamlein. The free concert will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in West Hartford.
This is the first of a monthly series of half-hour organ concerts. Guests will hear the sounds of local organists playing on St. John’s magnificent Austin pipe organ. The popular concerts will be held on the first Sunday of each month from January through June.
Scott is St. John’s own Director of Music and Organist, and will present a program called “New Year’s Resolutions” – presenting musical works that help us all enter the new year with new energy and peace. Works will include “Toccata in D minor” by Dietrich Buxtehude, “4:33” by John Cage, and other works by Sweelinck and Widor.
Sacred Music at the Red Door, St. John’s Episcopal Church’s gift to the community of West Hartford, has 5 major concerts lined up for the 2015-2016 seasons. The series has helped to establish St. John’s as a destination for those seeking musical refreshment and excellence, drawing on the existing strengths of the choirs and guest artists, architecture, organ, location, and Anglican heritage.
