Scenes from the Partial Eclipse in West Hartford
Audio By Carbonatix
West Hartford resident Mick Melvin shared these photos of the April 8, 2024 eclipse, which peaked at 3:27 p.m. with about 92% of the sun in the shadow of the moon.
Melvin said he adapted an iPhone camera filter to cover the lens of his DSL camera, and with the assistance of a bit of painter’s tape was able to get the filter to stay in place and allow him to capture these images in West Hartford.
And if you’re wondering what to do with those pairs of eclipse glasses, Amy Melvin shared some details that include recycling the paper portion (but take out the lenses), saving them for the next solar eclipse-viewing opportunity (which isn’t for decades in this area), or donating them to the nonprofit organization Astronomers Without Borders. According to Space.com, AWB partners with businesses to collect the used glasses, and Warby Parker, which has a store at Westfarms, is collecting them until April 30.
