No. 7 seed Hall operated like a well-oiled scoring machine, as they overpowered No. 10 seed Wethersfield 5-1 after just the first quarter.

The Titan’s dynamic offensive was red hot from the start, and just 20 seconds into game play, senior midfielder Lucy Gwiazdoski found the back of the net to start Hall’s scoring run, 1-0. Just two minutes later, the momentum continued with midfielder Anya Leshem netting another, elevating Hall 2-0.

Although Wethersfield trailed early on, they weren’t silent. Midfielder Kaitlyn Farrelly earned the Eagles’ first points and cut their deficit 2-1 after spending several minutes pressuring Hall’s net.

Despite the Eagle’s efforts, Hall was firing on all cylinders and notched three more points to close out an offensively dominant first quarter 5-1.

The second quarter, however, was offensively quiet from Hall, as the dynamic shifted from a Titans-dominated first to a more evenly matched second frame. Much of the quarter was spent at both nets, with both squads looking for scoring opportunities but unable to finish. After a quiet first four minutes, Wethersfield found the back of the net, cutting the Wethersfield deficit and ending the second quarter 5-2.

Soon enough, Hall’s Leshem ended the scoring drought to elevate the Titans two minutes into the third.

Hall quickly regained their offensive momentum, notching four points while Wethersfield found the back of the net for two. Attacker Alice Krug delivered a strong performance for Hall and notched two points in the quarter, one of which came with just five seconds left, finishing 10-4.

The Titans’ offensive energy continued with strength into the fourth as they recorded a healthy seven points to close out the game, 17-5. Although Wethersfield was continuously working on the defensive end to protect their goalie, Hall’s dominant and dynamic finishes helped them repeatedly find the net.

This marks the Hall’s second victory over Wethersfield this year. Hall opened their season with a 12-5 victory over the Eagles, not just marking a win, but a personal milestone for senior captain Leshem, who scored her 100th career goal.

Hall head coach Kristen Mullady said she’s seen her team grow in confidence since the start of the season. “There’s more players that want the ball on their sticks, so we’re more dynamic as a whole,” she said.

Next up for Hall is a quarterfinal match-up at No. 2 Cheshire on Friday, June 5, at 5 p.m.
