On a recent sun-filled October morning, Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford dedicated a beautiful new sustainable sukkah donated by the Silver Family in loving memory of Joshua Allon Silver z”l, a former Schechter student who passed away during the summer before he started first grade.

Attendees gathered in the sukkah to hear heartfelt words about Joshua’s life from Rabbi Jim Rosen of Beth El Temple, Schechter Head of School Rabbi Jonathan Berger, and Nancy Rosen, Joshua’s former kindergarten teacher. Joshua’s parents, Hilary and David, also spoke of their gratitude for the support they received from the Schechter community both during their time of loss as well as during this moving commemoration.

Students and faculty will continue to use this sukkah each year to celebrate the holiday of Sukkot.
