A 17-year-old West Hartford boy and his 12-year-old passenger received serious injuries Friday night when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a car on Oakwood Avenue in West Hartford, police said.

According to West Hartford Police, David Robles, 17, was driving a Yamaha motorcycle northbound on Oakwood Avenue at approximately 8:23 p.m. Friday. The motorcycle collided with a 2011 Toyota Camry, being driven by Daniel Carlos, 56, of West Hartford, that was also heading north on Oakwood Avenue and was turning left onto Richard Street.

The impact caused Robles and his passenger, 12-year-old Miguel Knight, also of West Hartford, to be thrown off the motorcycle and onto the pavement, police said.

Police said that the injuries sustained by Robles and Knight were serious but not considered life-threatening. Both were transported to Hartford Hospital.

Carlos was not injured but his vehicle sustained damage to the left side, police said. The motorcycle was heavily damaged.

The West Hartford Police Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and the investigation is continuing.

The very next day, West Hartford Police responded to a second accident involving a motorcycle and a vehicle, this time a head-on crash on Albany Avenue near Mountain Brook Road, just at the ascent of Avon Mountain west of Mountain Road.

According to police, at 9:54 p.m. Thomas Hinman, 33, of Burlington, was headed west on Albany Avenue in the left travel lane, riding a 1999 Ducati Monster. Hinman collided with a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Richard Casiello, 23, of North Reading, MA, that was heading east on Albany Avenue in the left travel lane.

Hinman was transported to Saint Francis Hospital with scrapes and a serious but not life-threatening injury to his left leg, police said.

Casiello was not injured.

The motorcycle sustained heavy damage and the vehicle sustained heavy damage to the driver’s side, police said.

Police are still investigating and trying to determine which vehicle crossed the solid yellow lines.
