Quarantining has not stopped the music for Conard High School’s Solo Choir.

Tuesday afternoon, Conard Choral Director Sam Eurich released the Solo Choir’s first virtual piece via YouTube – a performance of Shawn Kirchner’s arrangement of “Unclouded Day,” with 25 choir members appearing in separate boxes in a grid, but singing a capella in perfect unison.

“Our gift to the world in this crazy time – hopefully it brings some smiles on this gray day!” Eurich said in an email to We-Ha.com on Tuesday.

Creation of the separate segments that ultimately became the video was a true team effort.

Eurich said each of the students in Solo Choir sent him both an audio and a video recording, using a “scratch track” of the song to keep the timing correct.

He used Logic Pro to mix the audio files, and then synced the videos with the audio track through Final Cut Pro.

“This gave the students the freedom to record their videos outside and in the sunshine,” Eurich said.

There was a recording of him giving the starting note and counting in the piece, but that was removed from the final recording, Eurich said.

A second song is being recorded this week, and a third is in the planning stages.

“Looking forward to our next one already!” Eurich said.
