Calling the messaging app a “predator’s paradise,”Attorney General William Tong announced an investigation into Kik’s parent company MediaLab.AI Inc. Tuesday morning for what he called the company’s failure to protect minors who use the social media platform.

Tong said the platform had not gone far enough to verify ages for users or screen for sexual content, especially content which features exploitation of children. He also shared research that showed one-third of American teens use the messaging app to connect with friends and businesses, and that 70% of the platform’s users are between the ages of 13 and 24.
