The West Hartford Art League has announced that an opening reception will be held on Sunday, Feb. 18, from 2-4 p.m., celebrating the opening of two new exhibits inter galleries at 37 Buena Vista Road.
Attendance at the opening receptions, as well as the exhibits, is free and open to the public.
The “Celebrating Diversity” exhibit will be held in the Saltbox Gallery from Feb. 15 through March 3. It was juried by EdJohnetta Miller and according to the West Hartford Art League features the work of 26 artists. Participation was from local artists as well as artists from New York, California, and Ohio.
“The show was open to all artists whose work ‘explores themes of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, sexual identity, education, national origin, or any other distinguishing characteristic or trait,'” West Hartford Art League Executive Director Roxanne Stachelek said in the announcement of the exhibit. Suzanne Kirchner’s piece “Working it Out,” featured above, was awarded Best of Show by the juror.
On exhibit in the Clubhouse Gallery from Feb.15 through March 3 is “Cut and Paste,” a collage exhibit that was juried by Jenni Friedman. “This exhibit features work by 49 artists whose work ‘juxtaposes materials such as paper, paint, photography, magazines, text, and other found objects, to a piece of paper, canvas, or other backing, to create a new work of art,'” said Stachelek.
Regular gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
