Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center in West Hartford will host a concert titled “Songs of Faith and Resistance” on Tuesday evening, Feb. 20.
The concert will be performed by the Yevshan Ukrainian Vocal Ensemble, a Hartford-based choir whose repertoire includes selections from Ukraine’s rich tradition of liturgical, folk, seasonal, and patriotic choral music spanning more than 200 years.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. in Holy Family’s main chapel. Light refreshments will be served after the concert.
There is no charge for admission, though goodwill donations of $20 are encouraged to support the humanitarian aid initiatives of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Ukraine. Checks may be made out to Ukrainian Catholic University Foundation.
“I attended the Yevshan concert at St. Thomas the Apostle recently, and it was a truly beautiful and uplifting experience,” said Sr. Elaine Betoncourt, who serves on the advisory board at Holy Family Retreat Center. “Equally important, the money raised will help provide critically needed assistance to those who are suffering in Ukraine.”
The Yevshan Ukrainian Vocal Ensemble has performed in concerts and liturgical services throughout the United States and in benefit concerts with Connecticut’s Polish, Jewish, and Lithuanian communities. Active since 1999, the choir has worked in collaboration with Chorale Connecticut, the Yale Slavic Chorus, the Wesleyan and Fordham Concert choirs, and other regional performing arts ensembles.
Holy Family Retreat Center is located at 303 Tunxis Road in West Hartford. A free live stream of the concert will be available for those unable to attend in person. To access the livestream, visit holyfamilyretreat.org/
