UniteCT Mobile Registration Van Will Visit West Hartford to Assist Renters Access to Program

The UniteCT mobile registration van will be in West Hartford June 1, 18, and 21, to offer financial assistance to renters impacted by COVID-19 pandemic.

UniteCT mobile registration van is coming to West Hartford to help eligible Connecticut residents register for the program.

Acting through the state Department of Housing, this $235 million program provides rental and utility payment assistance to qualified Connecticut households financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The intention of UniteCT is to help stabilize Connecticut’s rental housing market.

Connecticut residents who earn up to 80% of the HUD Area Median Income and their landlords are eligible. UniteCT requires both the tenant and landlord to participate in the application process. Landlords and tenants can submit an application to UniteCT at https://portal.ct.gov/DOH/DOH/Programs/UniteCT.

For the past 14 months, West Hartford social workers continued to search for all available funding sources to assist residents during this difficult time. Some residents expressed that they lacked technology to apply for assistance programs. UniteCT mobile registration van is a solution that addresses that problem. The van is equipped with staff, computers and internet access to assist eligible residents register for the UniteCT program. The mobile unit is available to every town in Connecticut.

The van will be at the Faxon Library, 1073 New Britain Ave., on Tuesday, June 1 and Monday, June 21, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as Town Hall, 50 South Main Street (next to the garage wall), on June 18, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Documents needed for the application process include proof of identification, social security number, proof of income, copy of lease or rental agreement, proof of past due rent, proof of past due electric bill, and proof of COVID-19 financial hardship.

Residents without a social security or ITN number, may call Connecticut Institute for Immigrants and Refugees for rental assistance at 203-336-0141. If applicable, tenants may apply for only utility or only rental assistance, in which uploading all documents might not be necessary.
