The driver of a motor vehicle crashed into a utility pole and also injured a cyclist in an incident Wednesday.

A driver crashed into a utility pole, snapped it in half, and rolled the vehicle on South Quaker Lane on Wednesday afternoon, also injuring a cyclist who was in the area at the time of the collision, police said.

According to Capt. Aaron Vafiades, dispatchers received a report at 12:34 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2 of a vehicle that rolled over following a crash into a utility pole on South Quaker Lane in the vicinity of Nutmeg Court.

Crews from the West Hartford Police Department, West Hartford Fire Department, and AMR responded to the incident.

The utility pole had been snapped in half, bringing down electrical wires, Vafiades said.

“Upon arrival, it was determined that a cyclist had also been struck during the course of the vehicle colliding with the telephone pole,” he said.

Both the driver – identified only as an adult male – and the cyclist were transported to an area hospital with what police said were non-life-threatening injuries.

South Quaker Lane,between Carol Road and Talcott Road, was closed for repair of the utility pole and wires.

The incident is under investigation by the West Hartford Police Department Traffic Division. The West Hartford Police Department expressed its thanks to the West Hartford Fire Department and AMR for their efforts at the scene.
