American Legion Hayes-Vehage Post 96 of West Hartford is inviting all Veterans to join them on Sept. 11, 2024 at the Elmwood Community Center, 1106 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, to share where they were and what they remember of that day. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a food service followed by a discussion of that tragic day and how it impacted the lives of people throughout our nation.

Vicinus will open the discussion with remarks followed by comments and memories from those in attendance.

If you are interested in attending please email Post 96 at [email protected] with your name and the name of any other veteran guest(s) who will be joining you, or call Post 96 at 860-233-9029.

Hayes-Velhage Post 96 is celebrating its 102nd year as an American Legion Post. In 1922, thirty-four Veterans of WWI from West Hartford petitioned the National Headquarters of the American Legion to form a Post. Two West Hartford Veterans who gave their lives in the War were selected as the namesakes of the Post, Waldo Hayes and Francis Velhage. The Post received its Charter in December, 1922. Hayes-Velhage Post 96 is open to all military veterans who have served honorably and military personnel currently on active duty.
