Victim of Purse Snatching Chases Suspect, West Hartford Police Make Arrest

The suspect who stole a purse from a woman leaving Walgreens on South Quaker Lane Sunday evening has been apprehended.

A man who accosted a woman who was exiting Walgreens at 940 South Quaker Lane Sunday evening and stole her purse was apprehended and charged by West Hartford Police.

According to Capt. Michael Perruccio, a woman was leaving Walgreens at 5:03 p.m. when a man ran up to her from behind, pushing her and ripping her purse from her shoulder.

Perruccio said the woman chased the suspect through the parking lot and into yards on Burgoyne Street. An officer arrived and was able to continue the chase and apprehend the suspect near Schoolhouse Drive.

The victim injured her knee as a result of the incident.

Her purse and its contents were recovered.

The suspect has been identified as Nathanial DeJesus, 18, of Hartford. He was charged with third-degree robbery, interfering with police, and third-degree criminal mischief.

DeJesus was reduced on $15,000 non-surety bond and is due to appear on court June 3.
