‘Walk for 1 in 100’ Coming to West Hartford

The Adult Congenital Heart Association’s ‘Walk for 1 in 100’ – an event to raise awareness and funding for adults living with congenital heart defects – will be held in West Hartford on Sept. 9.

Join the Adult Congenital Heart Association for its annual Walk for 1 in 100.

On Sept. 9, join us for a chance to gather and meet other patients living with congenital heart disease (CHD), their family and friends, and the medical community that serves them and participate in a 1-mile walk around beautiful downtown West Hartford.

ACHA is the only nonprofit in the country dedicated solely to the unique needs of the more than 2 million adults in the U.S. living with CHD. The Connecticut Walk for 1 in 100 is one of 10 similar events ACHA is hosting nationwide in 2023 to raise money to fund cutting-edge medical research, advocacy efforts and various educational and outreach initiatives. Funds generated through the Connecticut Walk will support the ACHA Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) Accreditation Program, which is working to elevate and standardize care for the ACHD population nationwide.

“ACHA changed my mom’s life when she stumbled upon it during the pandemic,” says Jen Hockenhull, director of Finance for ACHA. “Watching her finally receive the care she needed from a doctor who specialized in ACHD care at the age of 72 was proof that lives improve when CHD patients receive appropriate care in adulthood. ACHA provided education and accredited centers that my mom was looking for her whole life and didn’t know she needed. I am grateful for what ACHA provided my mom and what they continue to provide to the ACHD community.”

Check-in opens at 8 a.m. at Town Hall in West Hartford (50 South Main Street) and the opening ceremony for the walk begins at 9 a.m. Morning activities also include door prizes, a silent auction, face painting, and the opportunity to speak with staff from CCMC, Yale New Haven Health, and Hartford Healthcare.
