Four escalators at West Hartford’s Memorial Garage have been taken out of service as part of the town’s ongoing modernization program. The work began Oct. 20 and is expected to take approximately 27 weeks to complete.

The affected escalators connect the first and second floors and the second and third floors. The town plans to replace major mechanical and electrical components and make safety and operational improvements.
Elevators and adjacent stairwells will remain available throughout construction. The newly modernized escalator serving the lower level and first floor of Memorial Garage passed all required inspections and returned to public service on Sept. 21, 2026.
The town encourages visitors to allow extra time when moving between garage levels.
Separately, the town expects the Webster Walk elevator modernization to be completed in early December, pending remaining work and required inspections.
