A damp Sunday afternoon didn’t deter art lovers to attend the opening of West Hartford Art League’s Members’ Juried Exhibit on Oct. 6.

The two gallery spaces at the Buena Vista Road arts organization are filled with outstanding pieces by local artists in oil, acrylics, watercolor, mixed media, photography, and more. As with all art, they are best when viewed in person.

“Best in Show” was awarded to West Hartford resident Gail Fine for the oil painting of her grandfather titled “Zaidy.”

In the words of the juror of awards Virginia Bradley, professor of art at the University of Delaware: “It was a pleasure to review the work for the Members’ Exhibition at the West Hartford Art League. The exhibition represents a broad range of form and content … The Best of Show award’s sensitive and lively use of gesture, pattern, and form stood out from all the entries for me immediately…”

Other winners include: Second Place, Teri Gassman, “Thimble Island Paradise,” $250 Award courtesy of the Helen Heard Wetherbee Fund; Acrylic Painting award, Jeffrey Leitz, “Untitled #10,” $100 cash award courtesy of the family of Nancy Fritsche; Photography award, Susan Cannarella, “Isabel-Cuba & Barber Shop-Havana Cuba,” $100 Gift Certificate donated by J&M Image Works.
