The West Hartford Board of Education held its annual election of officers Tuesday night, and with a vacancy due to the resignation of Deb Polun, who is now a member of the Town Council, there was some shuffling of roles with unanimous approval of all positions.

Democrat Lorna Thomas-Farquharson, who was nominated by fellow Democrat Ari Steinberg, remains as Board chair.

Polun had served as vice chair for the past. year, and Steinberg will now serve in that role. Democrat Jason Chang will become Board of Education secretary.

Each party has a financial examiner, and Clare Taylor Neseralla will now fill that role for the Democrats while Ethan Goldman will continue in the position of financial examiner for the Republicans.

Thomas-Farquharson said she expects the vacancy on the Board to be filled prior to the holiday break. Those interested in the position had been asked to submit a letter of intent and resume to the West Hartford Democratic Town Committee by Nov. 8.

Polun was sworn in as a member of the Town Council at the Nov. 9 meeting and will chair the Council’s Human and Community Services Committee and serve on the Finance and Administration Committee.
