The Minority Business Network of the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce will host the next installment of its Colorful Conversations series on Wednesday, June 12 from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom and Facebook Live.

This web panel will explore essential resources and strategies for keeping financial power within communities. Topics will include the benefits of certification as a minority-owned business, the dynamics of credit and debt, building collaborative relationships, and pathways to accessing capital.

The discussion will be moderated by Steven King Jr., a member of the West Hartford Chamber Board of Directors and co-founder of the Minority Business Network. “In today’s economy, ensuring that capital stays within our communities is more than just a financial strategy, it’s a catalyst and a necessary reality for sustainable growth and empowerment,” says King. “Through this organic discussion, we aim to identify building blocks for a stronger, more equitable local economy where every entrepreneur has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.”

Featured panelists include:

  • Tanisha Baptiste-Bynum, Lead Outreach and Marketing Specialist & Veterans Business Development Officer, U.S. Small Business Administration
  • Samantha Williams, President & CEO, 628 Digital Designs
  • Camille Hudson, Owner, Warehouse 635
  • Elbert Gray III, Owner, Hallmark TotalTech

The Minority Business Network is a Chamber committee launched in early 2020 to increase visibility, provide networking opportunities, and offer resources to Chamber members from underrepresented racial, ethnic, and religious populations. Its mission is to increase visibility of minority-owned businesses, provide a discussion forum for the unique challenges faced by minority professionals, and increase diversity of Chamber membership.

Colorful Conversations is a quarterly panel discussion series that takes a deep dive into issues disproportionately affecting minority communities. Experts from across the country share insights and propose actionable solutions. Past topics have included healthcare, education, access to technology, and employment. Forums are streamed live via Zoom, Facebook, and West Hartford Interactive Television, with recordings available on the Chamber’s YouTube channel.

Chris Clarke is the current Chairman of the West Hartford Chamber Board of Directors, and Chair of the Minority Business Network.  Under his leadership, the West Hartford Chamber has propelled the community forward through the creation and implementation of programs such as this. “I am always excited for an opportunity to watch Steven King Jr. in the Moderator seat,” says Clarke. “He has an amazing talent for getting people to open up and share their authentic perspectives.  I’m looking forward to watching our panel and tackle this timely topic.”
