The West Hartford Fire Department will be participating in National Fire Prevention Week, promoting this year’s campaign which is “Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you!”
The open houses will take place on two Saturdays in a row – Saturday, Oct. 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. Both open houses will be held at Station 2, 20 Brace Road, West Hartford.
The campaign “strives to educate everyone about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home,” according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the West Hartford Fire Department will also offer additional activities to promote fire prevention and share safety messages with the public, said Deputy Fire Marshal Chris Wilcox.
There will be hands-only CPR instruction, cooking fire safety demonstrations, fire extinguisher training, rescue demonstrations, and a kids firefighter challenge.
There is no cost to attend, and preregistration is not required.
