Teams at West Hartford’s Conard and Hall high schools began what all hope will be a full season of sports competition – including state championships – with girls and boys soccer, field hockey, and volleyball among the teams with games on Sept. 9.
Cross country, girls swimming and diving, and football are also beginning competition over the next few days. Boys golf, which transitioned to a fall sport for 2021, began the season on Aug. 31.
In their first game of the season, the Conard girls soccer team fell to Southington at home, 4-2. Conard goals were scored by Grace Beazoglou and Gabby Niman, with Meryl Rung and Molly Brown in goal.
The Conard boys soccer team played at Southington, winning 3-2 (goals scored by Anthony Catanzaro and Luke Wadsworth), and Conard field hockey won at South Windsor, 4-0, according to the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) website.
