West Hartford Police have located shell casings on New Britain Avenue and are continuing to actively investigate a report of shots fired in the area early Sunday morning.

According to Capt. Eric Rocheleau, officers responded to a report of gunfire on New Britain Avenue near Cortland Street at 1:24 a.m. on Sept. 12. Several shell casings were found along New Britain Avenue, between Mayflower and South Quaker Lane, he said.

A witness told police that two vehicles were traveling west on New Britain Avenue at a high rate of speed, with the occupants of one of the vehicles shooting at the other vehicle, Rocheleau said.

Police did not locate any suspects or vehicles, and there were no reports of any injured parties.

The window of a restaurant on New Britain Avenue had damage to a window, which police said could have been related to gunfire. Police did not disclose the name of the restaurant or the exact location.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the routine line at 860-523-5203 or leave an anonymous tip at 860-570-8969. A confidential tip line is also available through email at [email protected].
