The West Hartford Magic girls basketball program held their inaugural “Give and Glow” food drive over the past week, and on Monday morning a group of team members delivered 230 donated non-perishables to Town Hall to support local families in need.
The five Magic teams (grades 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8) all played games at Conard High School during the food drive period, and encouraged those attending games to bring donations of nonperishables. There are 90 players among all five teams, and with the support of their families, the coaches, and the West Hartford Magic Girls Travel Basketball League, they were able to collect 230 items.
“This is the first year of the Magic ‘Give and Glow’ Holiday Donation Drive,” said Adam Scherer, head coach of the Magic 4th Grade team. “We’re looking forward to continuing to contribute to our community and support others on and off the court,” he said.
Those who dropped off the donations at the West Hartford Food Pantry at Town Hall on Monday morning shared that giving back to the community “felt good and would help to support other families during the holidays,” Scherer said.
