The U.S. Conference of Mayors is sponsoring two special webinars, to be held Friday, Dec. 18, sessions that will showcase the winning mayors of this year’s “Mayors Climate Protection Awards.”
Recognizing mayors for successful local energy and climate action is especially timely now, as a new administration takes office, one that has pledged to support mayors and other local leaders in addressing growing climate challenges before our cities and the nation.
On Friday, Dec. 18, there will be two Zoom events featuring these award-winning mayors and their initiatives:
- Noon-1 p.m. (ET): Large City Winners (cities of 100,000+ population)
- 2-3 p.m. (ET): Small City Winners (cities below 100,000 population)
Key climate leaders – San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo and Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard, Co-chairs of the Conference’s Energy Independence and Climate Protection Task Force – will moderate these special sessions, designed to emphasize “best practice” lessons from these successful mayoral energy and climate initiatives.
West Hartford Mayor Shari Cantor has been invited to speak during the “Small City Winners” session, and the public is invited to register to attend.
On the morning of Dec. 18, the Conference will publicly announce the 2020 awardees and release details on their winning programs. This is the 15th year of the Mayors Climate Protection Awards, which been made possible by a special partnership between the Conference and Walmart to honor mayoral climate leadership.
