West Hartford Poet Laureate Christine Beck, who was appointed as the town’s fifth poet laureate in May, will give a reading at the Noah Webster Library on Wednesday night along with poets laureate from other area towns and Connecticut State Poet Laureate Rennie McQuilken.
Beck will also announce the launch of a new poetry-related project.
“Other town laureates will join me in launching the Favorite Poem project for townspeople to send in a favorite poem and a statement about why they love it. We will have a town wide reading in fall 2016,” Beck said in an email.
According to the library’s website, when submitting the favorite poem residents should include a statement of no more than 200 words in length about why the poem is significant to them. The project is modeled after U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky’s “Favorite Poem Project.”
Beck and the other poets laureate in attendance will each read their favorite poem, along with a statement about its importance to them.
Poems and statements should be submitted in a Word document to [email protected].
The program will be held from 7:15 – 8:30 p.m. in the library’s meeting room.
