At 9:10 p.m., West Hartford Police, Fire and EMS were dispatched to the area of North Main Street and Proctor Drive for an injured pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers located a 17-year-old male with serious injuries just off of the roadway of North Main Street. Officers found the student just off the roadway, police said.

The male was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

No vehicle potentially involved in the incident remained at the scene, and the department’s accident reconstruction team was called to investigate.

The pedestrian was struck near Hall High School, where a varsity football game began at 7 p.m. The game reportedly ended around 9 p.m., shortly before emergency crews arrived. It is unclear whether the incident was connected to the game.

In a message to Hall families Friday, school administrators confirmed the injured person was a Hall student and said the school was in direct contact with the student’s family.

“We are deeply grateful for the swift response and care provided by the WHPD, WHFD, and other first responders,” the Hall administration wrote.

The school said it would not share additional details out of respect for the student’s and family’s privacy. Administrators also encouraged families to check in with their children and said school counselors and clinical staff were available to support students affected by the news.

West Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Paul Vicinus Jr. also addressed the incident in a message to the community Friday, acknowledging that the news could cause concern, sadness and anxiety among students, staff and residents.

Hall has mobilized resources to support students and staff, Vicinus said. Counseling and clinical teams throughout the district, along with community partners at The Bridge, are available to provide additional assistance.

“Above all, our thoughts and heartfelt concern remain with this student and their family,” Vicinus wrote. “As a school community, we will continue to surround them with care, compassion, and support during this difficult time.”

Police thanked West Hartford public safety dispatchers, the West Hartford Fire Department and American Medical Response for their work at the scene.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the West Hartford Police Department at 860-523-5203 or submit an anonymous tip by calling 860-570-8969 or emailing [email protected].
