The West Hartford Police Department is proud to announce that Off. Jeffrey Swank and Off. Daniel Bedford are the recipients of the 2016 MADD award.

Each year MADD honors police officers from around the State of Connecticut for their work with DWI enforcement and education. The award ceremony was held at Central Connecticut State University on May 24, 2016.

Swank and Bedford were honored for their commitment to keeping the roadways of West Hartford safe for all motorists and pedestrians. The two officers made 96 arrests and had been active in educating high school and college age kids about the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Swank and Bedford are both nine-year veterans of the West Hartford Police Department. They are assigned to the Traffic Division and are both members of the department’s Crash Reconstruction Team.

Both Swank and Bedford are active with our DWI patrols. The DWI patrols are funded through a grant with the Connecticut Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.

It only takes a second for a drunk driver to cause a crash that results in serious injury or death. The results of a drunk driver’s action will last a lifetime. Please do not drink and drive.
