If you always wondered what it would be like to work for the police department, here’s your chance to get an inside look.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, the West Hartford Police Department, 103 Raymond Rd., will hold a Recruitment Fair and Open House from noon-4 p.m.

The West Hartford Police Department presently has nine openings and is hoping to attract qualified applicants who may not have previously considered a career in law enforcement.

Members of the Training Division and the Town of West Hartford’s Human Resources Department will explain the hiring process. Representatives from the police departments division and specialized units will be on hand to explain job functions. They include Community Relations, Detective Division, Traffic Division, SCUBA, K-9, SWAT, Motorcycle, Bicycle Patrol, and Patrol.

“The WHPD is looking for someone who will take pride in serving the residents of West Hartford,” said Training Division supervisor Lt. Eric Rocheleau.

“We are looking for hard working individuals who truly want to make a difference in the community. The ideal candidate has good judgement, is able to work on his/her own, and has the ability to react to unpredictable conditions,” he continued.

The process of becoming a police officer is lengthy and the West Hartford Police Department invests a lot of time and money into each new patrol officer.

The police department requires a special dedication to duty because the job requires officers to work nights, weekends, and holidays and in all types of weather conditions.

The starting salary for patrol officers is $67,184 to $86,710, depending on experience and prior certification. The West Hartford Police Department also offers college tuition reimbursement and pay incentives for college credits.

The West Hartford Police Department has opportunities for officers to advance and get involved in other areas of the department including assisting in traffic investigations and the detective division, taking on special assignments such as a school resource officer and a K-9 handler, or being a part of emergency services teams such as SWAT and SCUBA.

Military veterans, women and minorities are highly encouraged to apply.

Come see how a progressive police department with a long history of “Service to the Community” is part of the reason why West Hartford is rated one of the best places to live in the nation! (Time/Money magazine 2018).

Parking for the event is available at Town Hall, 50 South Main St., West Hartford, CT.
