West Hartford Prescription Drug Discount Card Provides Significant Savings

Residents can save money on prescriptions not covered by insurance with the free West Hartford Prescription Drug Discount Card.

Your Town of West Hartford Prescription Drug Discount Card helps you save money on your prescription medications any time your prescription is not covered by insurance. This prescription discount card provides you immediate savings every time you present it at the pharmacy counter. Use your card and save!

Facts about the Drug Discount Card:

  • Anyone can participate regardless of age or income;
  • Discounts are also offered on other medical services including vision, hearing and Lasik services.
  • All prescription medications are covered including pet prescriptions that are human-based and can be filled at a pharmacy;
  • There is no cost to the municipality or to participating residents;
  • Cost savings are on brand name and generics medications. Generic prescriptions offer the highest savings;
  • There are over 63,000 participating pharmacies nationwide that will accept your card, including CVS, Rite-Aid, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Stop and Shop, and Big Y, and many local pharmacies.

ProAct, the administrator of the West Hartford Prescription Drug Discount Card, reported that from Jan. 20, 2014, to Sept. 30, 2014, West Hartford residents made 558 claims at local pharmacies for discounted prescriptions. The combined total savings was $34,512.53 with each household saving an average $61.85 per claim or 53%.

The Town of West Hartford, through its association with the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM), launched the new prescription discount card on January 20, 2014 aimed at providing uninsured and underinsured residents steep savings on prescription medicines.

In Connecticut, over 10 percent of Connecticut residents – nearly 360,000 people – currently lack health insurance and prescription plans and another 800,000 residents are underinsured. There are over 50 million uninsured individuals living in the United States.

The drug discount card may be used by all town residents regardless of age, income or existing health coverage. Remember, there are no enrollment forms, membership fees, restrictions or limits on frequency of use. The card can be used anytime a prescription is not covered by insurance.
