Pratt & Whitney honors seven engineers as ‘Distinguished Engineers of the Year.’

Pratt & Whitney and the Hartford chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) honored seven Distinguished Engineers of the Year to launch National Engineers Week, Feb. 22-28. ASME issues these awards annually to recognize and promote excellence in the field of engineering. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company.
“Recipients of this prestigious award have traditionally represented the superior engineering that defines ‘Dependable Engines,’” said Tom Prete, vice president, Engineering, Pratt & Whitney. “The seven engineers selected for this year’s award are some of our most innovative thinkers, and they deserve to be recognized for their contributions to our company and the field of engineering.”
This year’s Pratt & Whitney Distinguished Engineers of the Year are Jesse Boyer, fellow in Additive Manufacturing; Christopher L. Dyer, deputy director, Cold Section Engineering; Dr. Matthew R. Feulner, discipline manager for Operability, Propulsion Systems Analysis; David P. Houston, manager of Core Structures, Mechanical Disciplines; Katherine A. Knapp Carney, Component Integrated Product Team leader, Next Generation Product Family Programs; John P. Virtue, Jr., discipline chief for Aero Thermal Fluids, Compressor Heat Transfer; and Ryan Walsh, validation manager, PW1100G-JM engine program.
“The contributions made by Chris, Jesse, Ryan, Matt and Katherine have helped enable Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ engine to revolutionize the commercial aviation industry,” said Prete. “And John and Dave have led significant advances in the capabilities of military aviation through their work on our F135 engine for the F-35 Lightning II. Each and every one of them deserves this honor.”
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers is a not-for-profit organization that represents more than 150 countries and 130,000 members, including college students and young engineers, to senior researchers and executives.
