Philip Tummescheit has announced his candidacy for Connecticut’s 18th State House District, pledging to be a strong advocate for West Hartford residents and a legislator who listens, engages, and delivers results for the community.

A West Hartford resident for more than 13 years, Tummescheit has deep roots in the town and a firsthand understanding of both its strengths and the challenges facing local families. Raised in a single-income household, he understands the financial pressures many Connecticut residents face today, including rising utility costs, increasing taxes, and the growing expense of everyday necessities.

“West Hartford deserves a representative who listens to residents and puts their needs ahead of partisan politics,” said Tummescheit. “I’m running to ensure that our community has a voice at the Capitol and that common-sense solutions are pursued to help families, young professionals, and retirees succeed.”

Before entering public service, Tummescheit built a distinguished career as an award-winning professional pipe organist. Beginning his work as a church organist at just 12 years old, he has performed throughout Connecticut, including appearances in West Hartford’s renowned Pipes Alive! concert series. He credits his musical career with teaching him the values of discipline, perseverance, and dedication—qualities he believes are essential for effective leadership and public service.

Tummescheit also brings experience advocating before Connecticut legislative committees, particularly on issues involving parental rights. Through that work, he witnessed what he believes is a growing disconnect between elected officials and the constituents they serve.

“Too often, political leaders prioritize party agendas over the concerns of the people they represent,” Tummescheit said. “I believe government works best when leaders listen, build consensus, and focus on practical solutions rather than political division.”

His campaign is centered on bringing fresh ideas and independent thinking to Hartford while ensuring that the voices of West Hartford residents remain at the forefront of every policy discussion. Tummescheit says his goal is to work across the aisle, find common ground, and deliver results that strengthen both West Hartford and Connecticut.

Philip Tummescheit isn’t just running to represent the 18th State House District – he’s running to ensure that you in West Hartford have an advocate. As your representative, he’ll be a legislator who genuinely listens and acts as a voice for the community.

A resident of West Hartford for over 13 years, Philip has grown up in the heart of this town, seen its many strengths and challenges and cares deeply about its future and the needs of his neighbors. Coming from a single-income family, he understands firsthand the practical economic pressures facing households today, from skyrocketing utility bills to the rising costs of everyday necessities brought on by poor state government decisions. He believes that Connecticut needs to focus on common-sense solutions that make it easier for families, young professionals, and retirees to not just survive but thrive.

Long before entering the political arena, Philip proved his commitment to excellence through a unique passion: classical music. An accomplished, award-winning professional pipe organist, Philip began working as a church organist at just 12 years old and has performed in celebrated local concert series like Pipes Alive! right here in West Hartford. Neighbors will benefit from the values of perseverance and dedication he learned using those same values to reach across the aisle and benefit West Hartford by fighting for what’s right.

Philip will also benefit neighbors from his experience testifying before legislative committees on parental rights. His experience taught him that too many politicians prioritize rigid, party-line priorities over the voices of constituents. As your representative, Philip has the experience to influence and persuade oppositions to come together in compromise and unity benefiting what’s right for West Hartford and for Connecticut.

Philip’s policies and solutions offer a fresh alternative to traditional ways of thinking guided by your voice and not partisan politics.
