Earlier this month, the West Hartford Republican Town Committee donated nearly 25 grocery bags full of pantry items in support of the Hall High School Girls Soccer Teams and their drive to collect donations for the West Hartford Food Pantry.

In early October, parents of players from all levels of the Hall High School girls soccer teams received an email from team captains’ parents, Lynn and Jim Rogorzenski and Marc Caplan. The email explained that their daughters wanted to take a leadership role, promote team unity, and give back to the community in these trying times by hosting a Food Pantry drive for the town.

Shannon Daly, a junior varsity player, had volunteered to participate in a Congressional Campaign in Connecticut’s 1st District this fall. She asked the executive team of the West Hartford RTC if their members would participate in the Food Pantry drive as part of the RTC’s Community Support Program. The executive team agreed and emails were sent out to members. Shannon collected and stored the donations that were dropped off at the family’s home.

“The membership was excited to help our community as we move into the holiday season,” said Kaye Straw, secretary for the West Hartford RTC. “We were thrilled to be able to support the great efforts of the Hall High School girls soccer teams, not to mention, a player who was also a campaign volunteer. The soccer teams ran a fantastic drive for the West Hartford Food Pantry.”

At the end of the drive, the Rogozenskis collected the West Hartford RTC donations from the Daly’s home. Combined with other team family donations, the Rogozenskis and Caplans packed up three cars full of donations and delivered more than six carts worth of food items to the West Hartford Food Pantry.
