West Hartford Runner Sets New Record at Greater Hartford Invitational

Libby McMahon of West Hartford’s Conard High School won first place in the 400m at Saturday’s Greater Hartford Invitational.

Conard High School junior Libby McMahon did not let the chilly and rainy weather slow her down one bit. At the Greater Hartford Invitational held at Simsbury High School on Saturday, May 13, McMahon shattered the school record that she set at the same meet in 2016, and now holds the fastest time in the state this season in the 400m.

McMahon crossed the finish line Saturday in 56.88 – a new Conard record. The previous record, set by McMahon in last year’s Greater Hartford Invitational, was 58.75.

The second-fastest time for the girls 400m in the state this year belongs to Caroline O’Neil of Daniel Hand High School in Madison, who ran a 57.19 on May 6, 2017, at the Middletown Invitational – racing against McMahon who came in second in that race with a time of 58.01.

McMahon entered the outdoor track & field season following an outstanding indoor season which included setting several records and finishing fifth in 300m the at the New England Championships.

Other top-1o Greater Hartford Invitational meet highlights for Conard include the girls 4x100m relay team’s seventh-place finish in a time of 52.97; Isa Glynn’s sixth place finish in 49.50 in the girls 300m hurdles; Molly Binder at seventh place in the girls 200m in 27.53; Sam Nanni’s fifth place finish in the boys 3200m in 9:45.15; Joseph Wohciechowk with a second-place high jump of 5’10.00″; and Claire Ittleson’s sixth-place pole vault of 8’06.00″.

For West Hartford’s Hall High School, Jenna Zydanowicz took third place in the girls 1600m in a time of 5:08.60. Josh Rivera finished sixth in the boys 200m in 23.78′; Burke Martindale’s javelin throw of 152’03.00″ earned him an eighth-place finish; and the boys 4x800m relay team finished sixth in 8:29.01.
