West Hartford Teacher Inducted into Prep School Soccer Hall of Fame

Kingswood Oxford teacher Peter Jones of West Hartford was honored for his contributions to the sport.

Peter Jones of West Hartford, Kingswood Oxford Upper School history teacher, was named as one of four individuals to be inducted into the Western New England Prep School Soccer Association (WNEPSSA) Hall of Fame for his long serving contribution to the sport by the executive board.
WNEPSSA, the oldest prep school organization, was founded in 1954 by Kingswood Oxford and nine other prep schools including Avon Old Farms, Loomis and Pomfret. The association now has 58 participating schools.
At the 50th anniversary of the association, former KO student, mechanical drawing teacher and soccer coach Chick Jacobus ‘16, Princeton ‘24, was named to Hall of Fame also.
Serving for 16 years as the president, the longest in the league’s history, Jones coordinated much of the league’s activities and promoted prep school soccer. He was also head coach of the boys’ varsity soccer team for 25 years, leading four teams to the New England quarterfinals and four to the semifinals.
Jones said, “I’m humbled and honored to be recognized by the association and by long time opposing coaches. I’m also quick to remember and be grateful for all the experiences I shared with the kids I coached and the coaches I worked with.”
