The public is invited to attend an open house on Sept. 27 at West Hartford’s newest “Pollinator Habitat,” and will have the opportunity not only to tour the new garden, which is part of the national Pollinator Pathway, but also to engage in a variety of educational and family-friendly activities.

The event is being hosted by West Hartford Leisure Services, Sustainable West Hartford, and the West Hartford Garden Club, and will take place from 10 a.m. until noon. The new Pollinator Habitat is located at the entrance to the Wolcott Children’s Forest, at the intersection of Wolcott Road and Elmfield Street.

An introductory talk will be held in the amphitheater from 10-10:30 a.m., and visitors will be able to “learn about the biodiversity benefits of the pollinator habitat, and how you can create a biodiverse pollinator garden in your yard,” organizers said in an announcement.

Between 10:30 a.m. and noon, there will be garden tours, hands-on workshops, and other family-friendly activities including a native plant giveaway, lessons on building a pollinator garden, seed-ball making, and a scavenger hunt.

The rain date for the open house is Sunday, Sept. 28.
