The West Hartford girls travel team won the tournament that was held Memorial Day weekend.

Rainy conditions couldn’t slow down West Hartford’s Barca, which captured first place at the 2026 Art Hennig Avon Memorial Soccer Tournament this past weekend.

After four wet and hard-fought games at Fisher Meadows in Avon, the team, coached by Tyler Gibbs, finished undefeated with a record of three wins and one tie to claim the tournament title.

Coming off two recent dominant league victories in which they outscored their opponents by 10 goals, West Hartford opened the tournament with consecutive wins over Simsbury, Granby, and Waterbury (VT). Entering the final match against Newington, Barca needed just one goal to secure the championship. Instead, the team delivered another strong performance, leaving little doubt about who owned the rain-soaked tournament.

The team’s balanced attack and unselfish play were key throughout the weekend, with nine different players recording either a goal or an assist. The team is enjoying an outstanding spring season having won 10 of its last 11 games.
