National Take-Back Day is Saturday, April 28, 2018, and will take place in the West Hartford Department of Public Works parking lot.

Submitted by the West Hartford Police Department

On Saturday, April 28, 2018, the West Hartford Police Department, the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District, and the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration will coordinate a collaborative effort to remove unwanted and unused pharmaceutical-controlled substances and other medicine during National Take-Back Day.

Collection activities will take place the West Hartford Public Works parking lot, located at 17 Brixton St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program is anonymous and free of charge. Enter via Brixton Strett and volunteers will be on hand to take items from your vehicle.

National Take-Back Day provides an opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications for destruction. These drugs are a potential source for illegal use and are an unacceptable risk to public health and safety.

Prescription and over the counter solid dosage medications, i.e., tablets and capsules will be accepted.

Not Accepted: Intra-venous solutions, injectable medicines, and needles will not be accepted. Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative.

For more information, contact the West Hartford Police Department at 860-570-8845.
