St. James’s Episcopal Church in West Hartford will host the award-winning ensemble on Oct. 9.

The GRAMMY-winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer will perform at St. James’s Episcopal Church on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.

This is the only Connecticut stop this year on Chanticleer’s world tour. For Chanticleer singer Jared Graveley, it is also a homecoming. A graduate of Conard High School and UConn, Graveley grew up just down the street from St. James’s on Four Mile Road. During high school, he and his sister Jordanna sang with St. James’s Church choir. Graveley also sang with Be S#arp and the Solo Choir at Conard. At UConn, Graveley sang with the Chamber Singers all four years.

“He is starting his fourth season with Chanticleer,” his mother Elizabeth Aiken said. “They travel all over the world,” she added.

Graveley is also is a part of the barbershop quartet called Purple Rebar. “They’ve taken the barbershop world by storm!” Aiken said. When asked if she was excited about the performance, Aiken said, “I bought the whole front row.” She added, “You have to write that I was playing Chanticleer when Jared was being born.” So it sounds like it was meant to be.

Chanticleer is dubbed “an orchestra of voices.” The group is rooted in the Renaissance but has expanded its repertoire to include a wide range of classical, gospel, jazz and popular music.
