The Town of West Hartford, the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce, and Blue Back Square have partnered for the “Stroll Your Own Way” event, which kicked off right after Thanksgiving and will last through the end of December, and the available activities include several contests.

As a special treat, singer/songwriter and West Hartford resident Javier Colon recorded a special holiday song for the community, which can be viewed on YouTube above.

#StrollYourOwnWay selfie challenge

The #StrollYourOwnWay selfie challenge is open to people of all ages, and participants have the ability to earn points for a chance to win a prize donated by local businesses. The more points you earn, the better the odds.

According to the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce, to participate:

  1. Take a selfie at your favorite West Hartford business or attraction
  2. Post the picture to Facebook. Make sure you tag the business and West Hartford Chamber. Use the hashtag #StrollYourOwnWay (1 point)
  3. Post the picture to Instagram. Make sure you tag the business and @WHChamber & @westhartford_econdev. Use the hashtag #StrollYourOwnWay (1 point)
  4. Wear a MASK! (2 points)
  5. Bonus if the Business is a West Hartford Chamber Member (1 point)

In addition to earning prizes based on points, there will be a random drawing for one person to win the top prize of a bundle of gift cards, worth $500, for local businesses and attractions.

Holiday decorating contest

This one is for West Hartford businesses – which are being encouraged to get creative in festively decking out their windows. Then, the public gets to choose their favorites.

Businesses from all over West Hartford are invited to submit photos of their holiday-themed decorations (be sure to indicate the name of the business) to West Hartford Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Chris Conway at [email protected].

The contest runs through Dec. 31, and the public is invited to view the gallery of photos and vote for their favorite through this link.

The business or organization that receives the most votes will be named “Best of the Season.”
