St. John’s Episcopal Church is celebrating its 175th anniversary, and along with its acclaimed music program Sacred Music at the Red Door, is holding its first block party.

The free event will feature local favorite, The Nields.  The family-friendly celebration will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18, from noon – 3 p.m. on the front lawn of St. John’s Episcopal Church in West Hartford. The concert begins at 1 p.m. All ages are welcome to come and enjoy the food trucks, featuring Rough House Hotdogs and Hamburgers, Iron & Grain Flatbreads, and Ice Cream Time. The event will also include a bounce house, church tours and children’s activities.

The Nields, sisters Nerissa and Katryna, have lit up the folk circuit since 1991. For 25 years now, the sisters have traveled the country as members of beloved folk rock band The Nields. With 18 albums, major and independent record and publishing deals, performances with 10,000 Maniacs, The Band, James Taylor, and the Indigo Girls, they have lived the rock and roll life.

St. John’s Episcopal Church is located at 679 Farmington Ave in West Hartford. The church is wheelchair accessible and has ample free parking. St. John’s Episcopal Church is a vibrant parish, which comes together in beauty and grace to celebrate and share the gifts of God. We strive, with God’s help, to listen, connect, serve, and grow. At St. John’s, we seek to create and offer exciting opportunities to make spiritual connections with God and with one another. That offer is made to both members and visitors alike. The clergy and lay leadership of St. John’s hopes that those connections will be meaningful and lasting for each and every one of us.
