Daley Moving & Storage: 100 Years Strong and Still Moving Forward
By Irene O’Connor, Linked Media
For nearly a century, Daley Moving & Storage has been the name Connecticut families trust when it’s time to move forward, whether it’s a new chapter or a new neighborhood. Founded in the 1930s and family-owned ever since, Daley Moving & Storage ,with offices on Talcott Road in the West Hartford’s Design District and Torrington, has built its reputation on one powerful principle: going above and beyond to help their customers.
From carefully packing priceless antiques to orchestrating large-scale commercial relocations, Daley Moving does over 1,500 moves every year – but every customer is known by name, not by number.
A Family Legacy That Moves with You
The driving force behind the company’s value and work ethic was Tony Mariano, an Italian immigrant who bought Daley Moving from its founder, John Daley, in 1971. With a relentless work ethic and deep pride in his craft, Tony raised his daughter Gina at his side – first as a young girl playing solitaire by his desk, and later as a teenager sweeping floors, loading trucks, and learning the business from the inside out.
“He used to say I was always in his hip pocket,” Gina recalls. “I was inseparable from him. I didn’t just watch – he taught me.”
She attended college locally and chose to work with her dad at Daley Moving during that time. She wanted to support him and stay connected to the family business. Being part of his legacy meant a lot to her, and working there gave her the chance to learn the ins and outs of the company directly from her dad. They worked so closely together that she credits much of her success to watching him lead.
Forty-three years later, she’s now the proud owner of Daley Moving & Storage, working alongside her husband Jeffrey Bunch and four of their children in what has become a true third-generation family business. Her kids represent the fourth generation ready to carry on the tradition.

Personal Touch, Professional Standards
With 14 moving trucks on the road, Daley is still grounded in the values that started it all: care, integrity, and connection.
“We’re not trying to be the biggest,” says Gina. “We just want to be the best at what we do with customer service and attention to detail. I give customers my personal cell phone. People are shocked that the owner of a moving company is that accessible – but that’s how we do things.”
Daley never overbooks, pads every single piece of furniture, takes a full inventory before the move, and promises to be there from start to finish – soup to nuts. They’re also known for solving problems quickly. “If something goes wrong, you call the same number and we make it right,” Gina says.

Moves That Matter
Moving is consistently ranked among the most stressful events in life – right up there with a death and divorce. But Daley aims to put people at ease with a move. Gina says, “I wouldn’t put someone in your home if I wouldn’t put them in my grandmother’s home.”
It’s this level of trust and service that drives 90% of their business through referrals. And they’re proud to be a resource, even for customers on a budget.
Gina says, “Many people have a big misconception about the cost of moving, at $225 an hour, it’s often more affordable than people think,” Gina notes. “We’ll work with what you can afford. Just ask us. Nine times out of 10, we’ll do more in one hour than friends and family can do in three.”
Rooted in Community
Beyond the boxes and trucks, Daley Moving is deeply embedded in the local community. From helping with food drives and donations to the Unted Way to helping survivors of domestic abuse relocate to safety, they believe giving back is part of their mission. “The more you give, the more comes back,” says Gina. “If someone’s in a tough spot, I want them to know – call me. We’ll help.”
A Century in Motion
Next summer marks a monumental milestone: Daley Moving & Storage turns 100. A big celebration is already in the works to honor a company that’s more than just movers – it’s a family and a legacy.
In Connecticut, Daley Moving & Storage is more than a moving company – they are a trusted guide through life’s big moves and small, built on generations of family leadership.
