A Passion for his Craft : An Interview with Bill Gozzo Jr. of Gozzo Design & Remodel
By Irene O’Connor, Linked Media
Tucked into West Hartford’s Design District on Jefferson Avenue, Gozzo Design & Remodel is rooted in craftsmanship, tradition, and a genuine passion for improving the way people live. Owned and operated by third-generation remodeler Bill Gozzo Jr., the company specializes in kitchen and bath renovations, finished basements, additions, and full design-build services across the Farmington Valley and beyond.
For Bill, construction is more than a career – it’s a family legacy spanning more than 50 years. His grandfather, James Vincent Gozzo, ran a paint store in Bloomfield in the 1950s and built homes throughout the area. His father, William Sr., carried on the tradition, and Bill grew up in Windsor, learning the trade alongside both his dad and his uncle on job sites. “I always loved designing and planning,” he says. “Even as a kid, I knew this was what I wanted to do.”
Bill launched Gozzo Design & Remodel in 2006 on Talcott Road, gradually shaping it into the highly personalized firm it is today. With three employees and the support of his wife, Deb – who handles the books – Bill oversees every project himself, from initial concept and design to planning, estimating, and managing trusted licensed tradespeople for tile, drywall, and more. The company also carries several cabinet lines, giving clients a complete design-to-installation experience.

His approach is hands-on, detailed, and rooted in collaboration. Bill uses advanced design software to bring concepts to life, helping homeowners visualize the space before construction begins. “I love taking an idea and making it real,” he says. “It’s what gets me out of bed in the morning.”
The past several years, especially during and after the pandemic, have brought a wave of demand – largely through referrals. Many of his clients are young families in their early 30s who want to stay in the homes they love, opting for additions, extra dormers, or new square footage to make those spaces work better for their changing lives. “Most people like where they are,” Bill explains. “They just need their homes to grow with them.”
Bill remains committed to maintaining the high standards his family built their name on. From fine carpentry and cabinetry work completed in-house to partnerships with companies like Tile America, quality is the foundation of every job.
“I like making a difference in the spaces people live in and how they use them,” he says. “You have to enjoy what you do – and I truly do.”
