Conard Amnesty International is exploring the possibility of hosting a community-wide Human Rights Day event in West Hartford and is seeking community interest before moving forward with final planning.

The Amnesty International Club at Conard High School is organizing a community event at the West Hartford Conference Center at the Town Hall (50 South Main Street) on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2026, to bring the community together for an evening of conversation and action focused on human rights.

Before the event is finalized, the club is asking for West Hartford/Conard connected people to complete an interest form to help determine the level of engagement and guide the planning for the event.

Every December 10, Human Rights Day is celebrated to honor the anniversary of the United Nations adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

Following the club’s highly successful “Write for Rights” event with U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal at Conard High School, they would like to expand advocacy through an opportunity for the West Hartford community to learn, discuss, and take action.

If the event moves forward (based on the amount of interest), the evening would feature a panel of prominent guest speakers including advocates, legal experts, and leaders working on human rights issues. There will also be a Q&A session with speakers and an action component where participants would be encouraged to engage with an Amnesty International case by writing letters to decision-makers on behalf of individuals whose rights are being violated. West Hartford & Conard themed raffles are also planned.

The event would be strictly nonpartisan and focused entirely on human rights education, civic engagement, and bringing community members together.

Community members interested in attending or supporting the potential event are encouraged to complete the interest form below.
