The Conard boys volleyball team delivered a commanding performance Monday evening, sweeping New Britain in three sets: 25–14, 25–16, and a thrilling 27–25 finish.

The Red Wolves set the tone early with high-intensity play and strategic execution. Aidan Plamondon sparked momentum early with a serving streak that forced New Britain into a timeout, down seven points. Conard’s fast tempo and smart hitting consistently found empty space on New Britain’s side, overwhelming the visitors defensively.

“We were able to serve pretty strong and took them out of their passing and offensive game,” said the Conard head coach Kerry Roller. “Our serving game really kept us going in it.”

Conard’s high blocking and tight defensive coverage gave New Britain little room to breathe, as the Red Wolves committed virtually no unforced errors throughout the match. The first set ended in dominant fashion, 25–14, after a fast-paced rally finished in Conard’s favor.

Despite nursing a shoulder injury, setter Lucas Heartland played up to his usual high standard. Meanwhile, Tyler Richard’s quick sets continually overpowered New Britain’s front line.

“Our passing and our digs keep the ball alive all the time,” said Conard captain, Tristian McClay. “We get second-chance balls constantly, and then we just find a kill and wear down our opponent.”

New Britain kept things more competitive in the third set, even taking an early 5-3 lead and rallying back to tie it at 24–24. Conard, however, remained composed under pressure. Float serves from Jonah White and disciplined defense helped them seal the set 27–25 and complete the sweep.

McClay also credited the team’s blocking game: “We got a block touch on almost every single hit they had. That gave us chances to dig and reset. Our serve-receive was on point, too.”

Looking ahead, Roller is optimistic about the season: “We’re a strong team. We matched up with some of the top programs at last weekend’s tournament. If we stay healthy and keep improving, we can have a great season.”

Conard continues to establish itself as a force in the state, with strong fundamentals, depth, and a relentless approach that opponents are struggling to answer. After an early playoff exit last year, the team is looking to make an early statement. Conard will travel to South Windsor on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
