The regular signing period for Division I football began Feb. 5, and that afternoon Conard senior Gabriel Hernandez, surrounded by family, friends, and coaches in the school library, made his commitment official, signing a National Letter of Intent to attend Central Connecticut State University.

“Gabe Hernandez is a tremendous young man,” Conard head football coach Matt Cersosimo said. “He is a wonderful representation of what high school athletics is all about. His unwavering commitment to being the best person, student, athlete and teammate he can be has given him the opportunity to reach his goal.”

Hernandez gave his verbal commitment to CCSU over the weekend.

“We are so proud of Gabe and how he has represented his family, Conard, and our football program. His best days in the classroom and on the football field are right in front of him,” Cersosimo added.

Hernandez was a two-year starter for the Chieftains, and this year was an All-League selection as an offensive lineman, Cersosimo said.
