The public is invited to join Congregation Beth Israel for its first Pride Shabbat on Friday, June 28 at 6:30 p.m., at 701 Farmington Ave. in West Hartford.

During this outdoor service – weather permitting – Congregation Beth Israel will honor the movement for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer equality and inclusion while celebrating LGBTQ+ Jews and the intersection of Jewish identity and LGBTQ+ identity.

Those who wish to come at 6 p.m. can also witness the first-ever raising of the Pride flag at the synagogue. The flag will stay up through the weekend.

Congregation Beth Israel is a Reform Jewish synagogue of over 700 families, tracing its history to 1843, when Jews were first given the legal right to establish a synagogue in the state of Connecticut. Today, Congregation Beth Israel is a welcoming community where people of all ages and backgrounds can deepen their spirituality and engagement in the world through prayer, celebration, learning, and efforts to repair the world.
