Another year of exciting times all around the Elmwood section of West Hartford. Lots of new projects and companies are testing the waters and finding Elmwood a wonderful gem and stimulating place to live, work and have a business!

Each spring, lifelong resident and businessman, Charlie Hilborn, representing the Elmwood Business Association (EBA), has been out and about in an effort to get merchant and community support for planters along New Britain Avenue. Assistance from all friends of Elmwood is again requested.

You can mail checks (made out to Knox Inc.) to: Charlie Hilborn, 65 Park Place Circle, West Hartford, CT 06110 before May 6.

If you live in Elmwood or you are a Friend of Elmwood and are able to, please show your pride in our community and join the Elmwood businesses to help beautify our neighborhood. These planters will be distributed along the Avenue to add to those the businesses are sponsoring.  To date we are so grateful to Sheehan Hilborn Breen, Udolf Properties, West Hartford Housing Authority, Beachland Tavern, AC Automotive, Juniper House, Jerry’s Artarama, Kearns and Kearns, State Farm Insurance, Kellie Burke Interiors, Gem Jewelers, Lyons Auto Service, Pilates Defined, Sherwin Williams, The Elmwood Dental Group, Futures, Gastro Park, Elmwood Community Church, Fernwood Restaurant and Bob Hilborn who have purchased one or more planters and several other businesses are interested! We need the community too! Last year there were over 50 community contributions ranging from $20 to$250 in addition to the business purchases.

“I am so proud and humbled by the opportunity to work on this project again,” Charlie said. “We are hoping those who can, will consider participating as every single donation of any amount will help contribute to the purchase of another planter. Let’s show all of West Hartford our Elmwood Pride and make 2022 the best year ever!”

Knox is assisting by discounting the price $30 per planter for those purchased before May 6, 2022 making the price $225 per planter (price after May 6 is $255 each). This year they hired someone who will oversee the maintenance of the planters to ensure the display of beautiful flowers to bring joy to the neighborhood.

Again this year the hope is that Elmwood will continue to lead the West Hartford Community with the most planters purchased! Please mail your checks today.

For more information please contact Charlie Hilborn at 860-559-8722  or email questions/ideas to [email protected].
